When the Ming dynasty collapsed, military commander Chen Wangting retreated to his family village in Henan Province. What he did next changed martial arts history.

He synthesized military combat, Taoist philosophy, traditional Chinese medicine, breathing practices, and Yin-Yang theory into one coherent system — Taijiquan, "The Fist of the Supreme Ultimate."

The philosophy wasn't decoration: understanding Yin and Yang was the actual mechanism of how the body generated and transferred force.

The art was then kept strictly within the Chen family for 150 years. Chen Village (Chenjiagou) still exists today. The same art is still practiced there — the same lineage, seven centuries and counting.
